Zinnias are great flowers to attract butterflies

There are many, many flowers to attract butterflies to your garden. They come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. They can be annuals(only last one year), or they may be perennials(come back every year. But they are all full sun flowers. Below is a short list of some of my personal favorites; but remember, there are loads more!

Zinnias are my number one favorite flowers to attract butterflies to my garden. They are just so very easy to grow, look so nice, bloom all summer long and will attract butterflies like nobody’s business! They come in short, or tall varieties. If I could only have one type of flowers to attract butterflies, this one would be it! The Zinnia is an annual, so it has to be re-planted each spring, but I still use it …..a lot.

The butterfly bush has loads of flowers to attract butterflies. You can find butterfly bushes in white, blue, purple, pink, red, yellow, and bicolor. Just cut them back each winter and you will be rewarded with many flowers to attract butterflies to your yard. Some people are saying that butterfly bushes are invasive; but here in western North Carolina, it has never given me any problems at all with spreading. It is a perennial plant here in North Carolina.

Another great plant with flowers to attract butterflies is the black eyed Susan. It is a perennial flower plant that has yellow petals and a black center. It is very easy to grow and care for, and the butterflies love it. I love the way the black eyed Susan’s look in my butterfly garden, they just seem so country to me.

Another perennial plant is the aster, its flowers attract several different kinds of butterflies to your garden. There are several different kinds of asters some short and some tall, but all of their flowers will attract butterflies! They are also used as a host plant for some butterflies, so they are twice as nice to use as flowers to attract butterflies!

Anise Hyssop has really good flowers to attract butterflies. They are perennial in my garden, and pretty much bloom all summer long. They grow from a foot to eighteen inches tall, and really look nice and neat. I have seen several different kinds of butterflies on them. I think it is because they produce a lot of nectar for the butterflies.

Marigold flowers attract butterflies. It is an annual plant, but it is easy to grow, and I have seen a lot of butterflies on them. Their flowers come in a variety of yellow shades. There are also short and tall versions of them as well. I always have some of them in my garden.

These are just a few of the many flowers to attract butterflies to your yard or garden. Make sure that you use only full sun flowers, and you will most likely attract plenty of butterflies!
