I have made myself a home butterfly garden, it is not very fancy like the commercial butterfly gardens, but it does have plenty of the butterfly’s favorite flowers, and every summer I can count on having many of the “winged wonders” flying around my home.

Home butterfly gardens are so easy to make and can bring so much enjoyment that I would encourage everyone to at least plant some butterfly flowers around their home. A single butterfly bush will attract all kinds of butterflies; and even though one bush doesn’t make a butterfly garden, it is certainly a very good start!

The home butterfly garden that you build will not be as dramatic as the butterfly gardens that are run on a commercial scale, but it can be much more satisfying to a gardener. Planting and caring for the flowers that attract the butterflies can be almost as much fun as watching all of the butterflies. Knowing that you have helped them to carry on their life cycle.

The butterflies that you will see in your home butterfly garden will not be as exotic as those in the botanical butterfly gardens. However, I can guarantee that your butterflies will have more meaning to you. You will know that each butterfly you see is there because you cared enough to build your home butterfly garden.

Your home butterfly garden can be large or small depending on how much time you want to devote to it. I have had butterfly gardens that were entirely planted in pots and planters when I rented a place to live; it was not nearly as satisfying to me as my current home butterfly garden, but it sure did the job of attracting butterflies to my yard.

Don’t let anyone tell you that a home butterfly garden has to be a large fancy affair. It makes no difference to the butterflies what size your garden is, I have had butterflies flying around and landing on my potted Butterfly Bushes. So if you want a home butterfly garden, just go for it!
